On July 7th, 1930, we opened our front door for the firsttime. That very same door has remained open for business for eight and a half decades ...that's 85 years, over 4,000 weeks and approximately 31,000 days. It's over a lifetime for many. For second generation owner, Richard Haegele seen in picture, it has been for his lifetime. At age 83, he has seen nearly all of those 85 years. Richard was born and raised right at the bakery. Many customers still remember first generation owner Helen Haegele, also seen in picture. They remember her braids, and her accent, but most importantly they remember her very kind and loving nature. August and Helen established the business when the neighborhood was just beginning. They established their home and their family all at the same time on the little corner of Erdrick and Barnett St. With the same commitment to the neighborhood and pride in the family's legacy two more generations followed in ownership. At present, 2nd generation owner continues to work as his son Glen, third generation owner, follows in his grandfather's and father's footsteps. "A humble business and a way of life", are proud words from Glen Haegele. With the participation from sons Joshua, Aaron, and Elijah, Haegele's Bakery is a Fourth Generation operation. This Tuesday 7/7/15 we will be celebrating with Washington Cake, 25 cent items, and alot of memories. Come share your own stories and join us as we recognize this milestone on the little old corner of Erdrick & Barnett Street.
